The Atlantic 10 faced a challenging season last year. Historically, the conference has consistently secured around the 8th spot in NET rankings since its inception. However, last season witnessed a slide to the 12th position. Many anticipated Dayton to lead the pack, with some even predicting them to hover near the top 25. Yet, they settled at the 78th spot in NET. VCU emerged as the best, they later faced setbacks with the departure of their head coach and key players.
DaRon Holmes II’s return to Dayton is undoubtedly the star of the league. Dayton having the best player (if not the top two) in the league, there’s an expectation that Dayton will regain some of its expected expectations from last season. They’re poised to lead the charge, but the league might be looking at a single bid this season, which is atypical for this conference.
VCU does have some continuity, thanks to bring a couple of key players from a strong Utah State with him. With a changed team dynamic and playing style, it might be a stretch to expect them to reach their former peak in the first year of transition. Loyola faced its share of challenges last season, but their new additions show promise. Having seen Drew Valentine’s commendable management with a talented roster two seasons ago that went to the NCAA, there’s optimism for a resurgence with new additions that grade highly in our model. Lastly, keep an eye on Duquesne; they might just be this season’s dark horse. If there’s a sleeper team it would be them in our opinion. Second place in this league is very much in play.
